The
Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas are two of the most coveted
spring races for three year-olds and a big increase to prizemoney and the
addition of a bonus have led to a record number of entries that include
established stars and horses that will make this spring their own.
Racing Victoria have doubled the prizemoney for the Thousand Guineas to
$1 million while offering a $1 million bonus to a horse that can win either
version of the Guineas and the Cox Plate.
The
increased prizemoney led to a record 285 three-year-old fillies being entered
for their race while Caulfield Guineas entries rose from 267 last year to 324
in 2019.
Already juvenile Group I winners at 1600 metres, Castlevecchio (Dundeel) and
Prince Fawaz (Fastnet Rock) are both among the Caulfield Guineas nominations as
is Champion NZ 2YO Yourdeel (Dundeel) as well as impressive types Yes Yes Yes
(Rubick), Cosmic Force (Deep Field), Kubrick (Shooting to Win) and Super Seth (Dundeel).
Four of the past five winners of this race – The Autumn Sun (Arrowfield), Divine
Prophet (Aquis), Shooting to Win (Darley) and Press Statement (Vinery) are all standing
at stud in the Hunter Valley at major farms this spring.
Godolphin has entered their Group I winning fillies Kiamichi (Sidestep) and
Lyre (Lonhro) for both the Thousand Guineas and Caulfield Guineas.
The pair are two of 24 fillies that have been entered for the Caulfield
Guineas.
First acceptors for both races will be taken at noon on September 10. Both
races will be run on October 12.
