Spring stars rev up at Rosehill trials

Breednet - Tuesday August 6
A strong set of heats on Tuesday morning took place at Rosehill featuring a host of spring hopefuls with the likes of established stars Avilius and Kiamichi, along with an impressive new import and an up and coming million dollar colt.

Heat 1: The star of the show was Ranvet and Tancred Stakes winner Avilius who cruised down the outside to win with plenty in hand from Scone Cup winner Special Missile.
Avilius is is set to resume in the Gr.1 Winx Stakes on August 24.

Heat 2: Canberra Cup winner Samadoubt was pushed out to win by a big margin but some nice efforts under restraint behind including the Godolphin pair of Best Of Days and Deprive, and also Vinery Stud Stakes and ATC oaks heroine Verry Ellegant.

Heat 3: One of the most impressive trials of the morning by Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi which cruised around in front and dominated the heat to win easily in a performance which would have delighted the Godolphin team. She is another slated to return at Randwick on August 24.

Heat 5: Million-dollar colt Petronius (Redoute's Choice x Cat By The Tale) won well and looks to have come on from his debut. Making $1 million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and trained by Gary Moore, his only start to date been a close second at Hawkesbury in June.

Heat 6: Plenty of spring contenders over the 900m and won by a most interesting horse in Wren's Day (Medaglia D'Oro x Season's Greetings (Ire)).
A 6YO stallion from the Godolphin team, he is yet to race in Australia but has only had six starts for a win and three placings, and two runs back was second to Cracksman in the Gr.1 Prix Ganay in France.
With his profile and this trial performance he looks to have the potential to be a serious spring player.
The heat also included Nature Strip (hard held 6th) and Osborne Bulls which made strong late ground for 4th.

Heat 9: A win for promising three year-old filly Villami (Foxwedge x Gallapagos Girl) which cost $425,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and after winning debut was a last start close third in the Gr.2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick.
Another impressive effort in this heat came from Godolphin's Flit (Medaglia D'Oro x Glissade). From three starts to date she won the Gr.3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington before a last start second in the above mentioned Gr.2 Percy Sykes Stakes.
