The
Coolmore team in Ireland produced an interesting maiden winner overnight at
Galway with two year-old Galileo colt Emperor of the Sun saluting at his second
start.
A half-brother to Champion 3YO Sprinter and now leading sire Zoustar, Emperor
of the Sun is trained by Aidan O'Brien and was third on debut at Killarney last
month.
Sent out a hot favourite for this 1m maiden, Emperor of the Sun raced very
greenly for Donnacha O'Brien, but was still too classy in scoring a
three-quarter length win.
He is the fourth winner from six foals to race from Redoute's Choice mare
Zouzou, who was bought by Coolmore for $775,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions
National Broodmare Sale and sent to Ireland to be covered by Galileo.
Emperor of the Sun is her second foal born in the Northern Hemisphere and her
first winner there, with the previous NH bred foal, a three year-old filly by
Galileo called At Last selling for 420,000 at the recent Tattersalls July Sale
to bloodstock agent Mick Flanagan after four unplaced runs.
Zouzou produced another colt by Galileo last year.
She has two daughters at stud in Australia in Ciarlet and Holly Zou, so their
owners will be hoping one of these Irish bred Galileo youngsters can bring
international success to the family
