Eighth Winner for Wandjina

Mark Smith - Monday July 22

The Anthony Cummings-trained, Wandjina filly, Satin Rain has been on an upward trajectory since making her debut at Warwick farm back on June 12.

Following a fifth at Newcastle she finished second at Warwick Farm at her most recent start, which assured her of short-riced favouritism for a 1600m maiden at Goulburn on Monday where she was the only 2yo among six 3yo's and a 4yo.

After taking an early lead, Satin Rain was taken on by Neanderthal and Travis Wolfgram elected to take a trail on the favourite.

She disposed of Neanderthal then safely held the challenge of Dip Me Lid (Helmet) by a half-length with Express Courier (Foxwedge) a further three and a quarter lengths back in third.

The striking chestnut was consigned by Ambergate Farm to the 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale where she failed to make her $35,000 reserve.

She is the third foal of the Sandown winner Slippery Satin (Benicio) who was sold to Botty's Bloodstock for $11,000 from the Newgate Farm consignment at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying a Bernardini (USA) colt.

A half-sister to the grand performer, Group 1 WATC Railway Stakes winner, Great Shot (Magnus) and the Listed winner Gawne (Flying Spur), Slippery Satan is a granddaughter of the Group 1 STC Orlando Wines Classic winner Satan Sand.

Satin Rain becomes the 8th first crop winner for Newgate Farm's Group 1 VRC Australian Guineas winner Wandjina.
