Trade Fair's Rivalry Galore Shocks in Belmont Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday July 20

Punter's were floored when the maiden Rivalry Galore (Trade Fair) downed the 1/8 favourite Mystery Miss (Animal Kingdom) in Saturday's $100,000 Listed Belmont Classic (2200m).

Winner of the Listed Belmont Guineas and Listed Belmont Oaks, Mystery Miss had no answer to the finish of Rivalry Galore who tracked the favourite into the straight.

Mystery Miss tried to rally but she fell a long-head short of Troy Turner on the Brett Pope-trained Rivalry Galore who had placed in four of his five starts before breaking through.

Cockatiel (Galah) was four and a half lengths back in third.

A half-brother to the stakes-placed Stay Lady Stay (State City), Rivalry Galore is the second winner from as many to race out of the winning Blackfriars mare Lady Rivalry who has a yearling colt by Demerit and was covered by My Admiration last year after missing to Trade Fair (GB) in 2017.

Rivalry Galore becomes the 13th stakes-winner by the tragically underrated Zafonic stallion Trade Fair (GB) (pictured) who died at Lynwood Park Stud in March last year after 11 seasons at stud.
