Darci Brahma debutante impresses

Darryl Sherer - Tuesday July 16
It may have only been a provincial meeting at Horsham in Victoria but Darci Brahma filly Hapaira could not have been more impressive in winning on debut on Monday.

Darci BrahmaThe Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained three-year-old sailed home 5-1/4 lengths clear under Harry Coffey to win the Maiden Plate over 1100, on a heavy track.

Hapaira won a 800m barrier trial at Rotorua in March before joining the Maher Eustace stable.

She is the fourth winner from 11 foals of racing age for La Serenade (Show A Heart) and is a half-sister to the handy mare Show Up, second in the Group III Cambridge Breeders' Stakes in New Zealand before coming to Australia where she won over 1000m at Caulfield on a heavy track.

La Serenade also won at Caulfield, was stakes-placed in the 2004 Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm and is descended from the 1965 Champagne Stakes winner Eye Liner (Smokey Eyes).

Champion 2YO & 3YO in NZ in 2004-05 & 2005-06 as well as Champion Sprinter in NZ in 2006-07, Darci Brahma (Danehill) is preparing to cover the 2019 season at The Oaks Stud in Cambridge for $NZ15,000.
