Leading Sires in Hong Kong

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 15
The 2018/2019 Hong Kong racing season concluded on Sunday and while newly crowned Horse of the Year Beauty Generation's sire Road to Rock topped the leading sires list by earnings, the leading sires by winners list offers a good insight into what Australasian sires are working in Hong Kong and will be popular with Hong Kong buyers at our yearling sales in 2020.

Savabeel was the leading sire in HK by winnersWaikato Stud's champion sire Savabeel heads the list with 16 winners highlighted by Group II Sprint Cup winner Rattan ahead of Darley heavy hitter Exceed and Excel on 15 winners, his offspring including Group I winning sprinter Mr Stunning.

The list below includes all stallions with six or more winners with Yarraman Park's much missed Hinchinbrook worth highlighting as two of his winners are the stakes-winners Beat the Clock and Champion's Way, both honoured at the HK end of season awards night as Champion Sprinter and Champion Griffin. Read about them here.

Some of the younger stallions further down the list worth mentioning include Pierro with three winners from six starters headed by Group I Hong Kong Derby winner Furore, Your Song with four winners from seven starters and So You Think with four winners from eight starters.

Victorian based sires this season Reward for Effort and Foxwedge also deserve highlighting, the former with five winners from 11 runners and the latter with five winners from 13 starters.
