The $85,000 NZB Ready to Run Sale purchase broke sharply from the starting gates and went forward to challenge for the early lead, but jockey Salee bin Saad opted to ease back into third position.

Kante quickened stylishly in the straight, surging through in between the two leaders, and he claimed top honours by a neck in a desperate battle to the finish.

Kante was the least experienced runner in Sunday's field, lining up for just his second career appearance. The Evert Van Breukelen-trained runner now boasts a perfect two-from-two record and has earned more than RM150,000 (NZ$54,000).

A close relative of the multiple Group 1-winning sprinter Atomic Force(Danehill Dancer), Kante was bought at Karaka by Mr Ooi Tang Beng & Mrs Chew Siew Ean, who selected him from the draft of Westbury Stud.
