Animal Kingdom's Mystery Miss Captures Belmont Guineas

Mark Smith - Sunday June 23

On the track, Mystical Miss wiped off just under $50,000 of the $425,000 she had cost Bob Peters at the 2012 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale but she has made a quick start in the broodmare barn with her first foal Mystery Miss winning her second stakes in Saturday's Listed Belmont Guineas.

The 3yo daughter of Animal Kingdom (USA) (pictured ) has made a remarkable return to the winner's circle after she nearly succumbed to a twisted small intestine last spring.

With the master William Pike in the saddle, Mystery Miss stormed home to defeat her stablemate True Attraction (More Than Ready) by a length with Coming Around (Gingerbread Man) in third.

Pike said he could not make a decision on which of the stablemates to ride and left it up toco-trainers Grant and Alana Williams.

"Alana and Grant had to ask me to ride her because I had no idea," Pike told The West Australian.

"They said 'don't forget the blinkers are going on'.

"She got on the bit just before straightening and that was the difference."

Owner Bob Peters said the Animal Kingdom filly had more to offer.

"This is not the grand final," Peters said.

"There's the Belmont Oaks and the Belmont Classic."

The dam of Mystery Miss, Mystical Miss is a daughter of Danehill's Group 1 VRC Oaks and Group 1 VATC Thousand Guineas heroine Magical Miss.

Mystical Miss has a 2yo sister to Mystery Miss named Ethereal Miss and as yearling filly by Canford Cliffs (IRE).

After foaling another Animal Kingdom (USA) filly last spring, Mystical Miss was covered by Frosted (USA).
