'Truly Outstanding' Inglis Great Southern Sale Concludes

Media Release - Wednesday June 19

A G2-placed mare stole the limelight on the final day of the Great Southern Sale, capping off a "truly outstanding'' four days of trade.

In what has been a stellar week at Oaklands:

*The select weanlings offered on the first two days averaged $32,388 (33% YOY increase) with a median of $18,000 (50% increase) and a clearance rate of almost 80%

*A total of 22 weanlings sold for $100,000 or more, up from 15 in 2018

*The broodmares also enjoyed increases across all key indicators of average ($25,063, up 27%), median ($8000, up 45%) and gross ($5,107,250, up 15%)

*The top of the market was again strong, with nine horses selling for $200,000 or more during the four days, up from five last year

*Across the four days of selling, $17,698,550 was grossed, an increase of 11% from last year.

Inglis' Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian credited the continuing high quality of the Victorian racing and breeding industries for the success of the sale.

"Big things are happening down here, the future is extremely bright and I want to thank the breeders and vendors especially for showing consistent and ongoing support for this sale,'' Vivian said.

Swampland"We've had four fantastic days of trade, there was great presentation by our vendors and great support in the ring from buyers.

"It was a very fair market, exactly the sort of market you'd like to see at these sales with good solid competition.

"I feel most people in attendance would have walked away satisfied with their charter, be it as a vendor or purchaser.''

Today's top lot was Swampland (Lot 834, pictured)), a G2-placed mare who was sold by her owners and trainer Henry Dwyer.

She sold to Douglas Stutt for $125,000.

Of the sale, Dwyer said: "We're really happy with the result, it's a great group of owners in the mare and she goes on to the next phase of her career.

"She was incredibly unlucky not to have won one, if not two, black type races and there was plenty of competition for her as a result so she no doubt goes to one of the upper-level stallions being the type of mare she is.

"I'll be eagerly awaiting her babies at the sales.''

The next Inglis sale is the Inglis Digital June Online Auction, for which the catalogue will be available from midday this coming Friday, June 21.

Bidding begins at 3pm Friday.
