One to Watch – Sha Tin

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 17

A full brother to a Group I winner, this promising two year-old has won two of three starts and appears to have many more wins in store.

Winning Method - image HKJCHoly Roman Emperor (IRE) is a great favourite with the Hong Kong market and featured at Sha tin on Sunday with impressive juvenile winner Winning Method, a $160,000 NZB Premier purchase for Ohukia Lodge from the Curraghmore draft.

Trained by Danny Shum and ridden by Joao Moreira, Winning Method was second on debut in April before winning his next start and bolted away to win the 1200 metre griffin race by four and a half lengths as favourite.

"I was quite worried at about halfway because the pace was on a bit and I had to niggle at him to stay in touch. But once I gave him a tap on the shoulder he just ran past them, so that says he’s got ability,” Moreira said.

"He was in great form and he’s shown he has more maturity than before. He raced more kindly in the race – he didn’t jump and run on the bridle like a lion. This time he was a bit more cautious in what he was doing and that’s why he was able to run away from them. I’m pleased with what he’s done today.”

Winning Method is a full brother to Holy Roman Emperor’s former star Kiwi filly Rollout the Carpet, winner of the Group I New Zealand One Thousand Guineas and rated the Champion Two and Three Year Old Filly.

He is the seventh winner from imported Red Ransom mare Out of Egypt (USA), a full sister to Group II winner Wandering star, the dam of Group I winner War Command.
