Global Glamour Tops MM Mares Day Two

Media Release - Wednesday May 29
Former star race mare Global Glamour topped Day Two of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast today when selling for $1,55 million.

The sixth million dollar seller of the auction to date, Global Glamour was the star of the day and her sale capped a remarkable journey for her large group of local and international female owners - a numberof who were at the complex for the occasion.

Originally a $65,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for the syndicate by leading bloodstock agent James Bester, Global Glamour raced to stardom on the track with two Group One wins within a week.

She won a number of other feature races under the training of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and retired with earnings of $1.56 million. With today's $1.55 million sale price - it's been a $3.1 million result for the It's All About the Girls syndicate.

Coolmore's Tom Magnier teamed up with Baramul Stud's Gerry Harvey and Bester to buy the mare after she was presented unreserved by Widden Stud in foal to their leading young sire Zoustar.

"She has a lot of quality," a delighted Tom Magnier reported. "And she was a great race filly."

"We are delighted to be able to get her and to have Gerry involved is fantastic. She will be sent to Justify this spring."

"Magic Millions has done a great job. They've got all the right people to the Gold Coast and all the best judges were on her."

"James is a great judge and he bought a great filly (as a yearling) and well done to everyone who went into the ladies syndicate."

"I thought it was a great initiative from Katie and I think there should be far more things like that going on and you see the result that she got today, it's great for the sport."

Global Glamour was bred in Victoria and sold at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm, and James O'Brien couldn't have been more proud watching her sell as a broodmare.

"There was no possible way that I thought she would make that mark when she was born, but after seeing her racing career evolve, I'm very proud to see that result."

"She is the best filly that we've produced," O'Brien added. "She did an amazing job on the racetrack."

Extra OlivesTom Magnier snapped up the day's second biggest seller when he went to $875,000 to secure the group performed Extra Olives from the Newgate Consignment.

Extra Olives, a multiple Melbourne winner, has produced one foal by Capitalist and was today sold in foal to Yarraman Park Stud's super sire I Am Invincible.

The mare, who earned black type with a second placing in the Group Three Vanity Stakes, is from a Sydney winning daughter of former champion Australian filly Alinghi.

Local breeder Andrew Bowcock made his presence felt later in the afternoon when he went to $750,000 to secure the group winner Girl in Flight from the Yarraman draft.

A Group Three winner, Girl in Flight is a daughter of Commands and she is carrying an August foal by Widden Stud's top young sire Zoustar.

Yes Yes Yes' stakes performed half sister Dee Nine Elle proved popular earlier in the day when presented by Kitchwin Hills.

The five time winner was purchased by Badgers Bloodstock and Glentree Thoroughbreds for $720,000. The mare is in foal in her first season to globetrotting sprint star Merchant Navy.

The National Broodmare Sale gross has now grown to almost $55 million and an average price of $146,914. The clearance rate sits at 79 per cent with 373 lots sold.

"We may not have had the fireworks of yesterday, but it was a really solid day's trade - above our expectations," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch reported.

"What I've enjoyed about today is that the vendors who have met the market have been able to find buyers and full credit to the vendors who have come here with realistic reserves and hopefully they're walking away with good results."
