Performer's Breeder Buys Back In

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 28

Seymour Bloodstock's Darren Thomas has made the forward planning decision to partner with Aquis and take a significant share in new stallion Performer, a son of Exceed And Excel which he bred and watched achieve $450,000 as a yearling at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Performer will stand at Aquis this springIndicating that seeing his home-bred sell as a yearling was a huge thrill, Thomas couldn't believe his luck when trainer Chris Waller produced Performer to win the Breeders' Plate on debut, in a very slick time of 56.82, the first time the 57 second barrier was broken for the race.

Following up with another black type victory, taking out the Gr.3 Canonbury Stakes second time out, Performer ended his juvenile season as the third highest Timeform rated 2YO colt of his crop, a figure higher than two-year-old Gr.1 winner The Autumn Sun.

Expressing his delight at the opportunity to purchase back into Performer, Thomas stated, "I was fortunate enough to breed the quality colt who I sold as a yearling at the Magic Millions before going on to win the Breeders' Plate.

"Once it was announced that Aquis was to stand Performer, I knew I wanted to be involved in his breeding career as I have a portfolio of mares that would be ideal for him."

"We have a great relationship with Darren. We could not be happier to have him partner with us in the stunning-looking colt and outstanding stallion prospect," enthused Aquis Farm's CEO Shane McGrath.
