The
powerful Chris Waller stable produced a lovely two year-old winner for champion
sire Fastnet Rock on Wednesday at Canterbury with Maddi Rocks cruising clear
for an impressive win.
Second on debut at the same venue two weeks ago, Maddi Rocks showed the benefit
of that outing when accelerating smartly to the line to win the 1250 metre
maiden by more than two lengths in a dominant display as hot favourite.
"She'll go for a spell now and then we'll look towards the Princess Series in
the spring with her," said Chris Waller.
A $325,000 Magic Millions purchase for B K Racing/Guy Mulcaster from the
Baramul Stud draft, Maddi Rocks was bred by Gerry Harvey and is the first
winner for blueblood Savannah River, a winning half-sister by Encosta de Lago to
Cox Plate winner and champion sire Savabeel.
A daughter of Group I New Zealand Oaks winner Savannah Success, Savannah River
has an Exceed and Excel yearling filly that was sold at Magic Millions this
year for $160,000 and a weanling colt by Snitzel.
Maddi Rocks is the seventh two year-old winner this season for Coolmore's Fastnet
Rock, who stands at a fee of $165,000 this spring.
