Sale Bound Quilista Romps in Bright Shadow

Due to go under the hammer at Magic Millions National Broodmare sale at the Gold Coast beginning on May 28, Quilista enhanced her appeal with a front-running romp in Saturday's Listed Bright Shadow Quality (1200m) at Doomben.

The 5yo daughter of the Danzig stallion Scandal Keeper (USA) made light of her top-weight of 60kgs under Kerrin McEvoy to lead at every call. When the judge stopped the contest she had a three and a half-length advantage over Test The World (Testa Rossa) with River Racer (Hidden Dragon) a long head away third. (photo Racing Queensland)


It was the fourth stakes win for Quilista who has wins in her native Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and now Queensland.

The Peter and Paul Snowden began her career under the care of her part-owner Justin Warwick and Peter Snowden is hoping to persuade Warwick to keep the mare racing.

"It's always been the plan to sell her when we got her from Justin and that's probably the route we'll take but hopefully there's time for another run in between," Snowden told AAP.

"We'll see what happens and talk to him and see where her future lies. She's been great to Justin as a multiple Group II winner and she's still racing at a good level.

"She's carrying good weight and running good time so we've got to look at those aspects of it."

Quilista was in rare form last autumn. After winning at Flemington last March she captured the Group III Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill then made it three in a row with a dominant performance in the Group II Sapphire Stakes at Randwick.

A bargain basement $10,000 purchase by Justin Warwick from the draft of Korilya Stud at session two of the 2015 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Quilista advances her record to 9 wins, 4 seconds and 4 thirds from 30 starts with earnings of $723,650.

She is the best of four winners from seven to race out of the stakes-placed Brocky's Ace (Surtee).

A yearling colt by Gingerbread Man out of Brock's Ace was knocked down to Commercial Bloodstock Services for $50,000 at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions. Named Red Can Man he finished second at his career debut at Ascot on January 26.

Brocky's Ace has a weanling filly by War Chant (USA) and was covered by Safeguard last spring.

Quilista is the only stakes winner for her sire Scandal Keeper (USA), a Darley-bred three-quarter-brother by Danzig to Group 1 winner Camarena who is the dam of Group 1 winner Camarilla (the dam of Guelph and Ghibellines) and the Listed winner Induna.

Scandal Keeper (USA) died in 2017 after 10 seasons at stud.
