Stud have announced sad news of the passing of outstanding producer Legally Bay
on Wednesday at age 18.
A Group III winner by Snippets, Legally Bay went to stud in 2005 and produced
nine named foals, seven of which raced for six winners headed by multiple Group
I winner and Royal Ascot hero Merchant Navy, Group II winner Jolie Bay and stakes
-placed Zara Bay.
"We lost the champion mare Legally Bay today. A
beautifully unique character and treasured by her adoring owners, Chris and
Jane Barham and everyone at Segenhoe. She will rest rightfully overlooking the
farm lying beside other champions as she justly deserves "- Peter O'Brien– Segenhoe Twitter
The last foal from Legally Bay, a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock, was sold by
Segenhoe at Inglis Easter for $2.3million with Aquis Farm the buyer and she has
a two year-old colt by Fastnet Rock called Tungsten Bay that was retained to race
and is in work with Team Hawkes.
Legally Bay will be sadly missed by her owners Chris and Jane Barham.
"She was way more than a horse to us. Without her our lives would have been
infinitely smaller. Through her we got to see the world and meet so many
amazing people, she enabled us to dream. I truly hope the dream will live on" -
