Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 13
Eight juvenile heats at the Rosehill barrier trials on Monday morning produced some interesting winners including a talented colt carrying the colours of renowned Sydney owner / breeder Alan Bell, who has a happy knack for purchasing great types that can run.

Godot as a yearlingIn recent times, Bell has had a lot of success with top class colts Deep Field and Star Turn, who are both now at stud, while another of his purchases Maastricht, was stakes-placed on the track but as a broodmare has really hit her straps producing Group winning juvenile Loving Gaby as her first foal and topping the Inglis Chairman’s Sale when fetching $2,250,000.

Bell’s colours were again seen to advantage on More Than Ready (USA) colt Godot, who is prepared by Team Hawkes.

An easy trial winner at his first public outing at Hawkesbury last month, he looked even better this time around jumping fast from gate one to hold the fence before relaxing for Tommy Berry to take a sit behind the leader.

Shaken up at the furlong, he quickly dashed clear of his rivals to win the 897 metre heat by four lengths in 52.93, which was the quickest two year-old heat at this distance.

A three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Always Alison and closely related to Group I VRC Victoria Derby winner Benicio, Godot was a $320,000 Magic Millions purchase for Hawkes Racing from the Vinery Stud draft and is the first foal of well bred Fastnet Rock mare You Da One.

The grand-dam of You Da One is former brilliant Group III winner Mannington, a half-sister to Group I STC Coolmore Classic winner Bollinger and daughter of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay.

Godot has the pedigree to suggest sky is the limit, so his progress will be well worth watching.
