Newgate Celebrate Dark Jewel Victory

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 12
At the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November Sale, Newgate Farm and SF Bloodstock bid $US575,000to secure stakes-winning Scat Daddy mare Con Te Partiro (USA), who made a winning debut in Australia on Saturday when taking out the Group III Dark Jewel Stakes at Scone.

Scat Daddy mare Con te Partiro wins for Newgate Farm - image Steve HartPrepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Con Te Partiro was easy in the market, but surged home between runners for Sam Clipperton to win the 1400 metre contest by half a neck carrying the new black and red colours of Newgate Farm .

A well performed mare that has won stakes races in North America and at Royal Ascot as well as finishing fourth in the Group I Del Mar Oaks, Con Te Partiro took her overall record to four wins and three placings from 16 starts with a powerful victory.

Waterhouse admitted she had some pre-race concerns because of the mare's manners.

"She is quirksome," Waterhouse said.

"Before the race I said she'll either blow her brain in the mounting enclosure or she'll win the race.

"But she stood quietly and full credit to the girls and boys who looked after her and kept her quiet.

"She got squashed up in the run but got out.

"She was a Listed winner at Royal Ascot over 1600 metres so I was a bit worried the 1400 might be too short."

Con Te Partiro is entered for next month's Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap with nominations yet to be taken for the Group I Tattersall's Tiara for fillies and mares, which would also be an appeal option.

One of 115 stakes-winners worldwide for the late great sire Scat Daddy, Con Te Partiro is a half-sister to stakes-winner Donworth from Group I placed Street Cry mare Temple Street.
