First Group 1 Winner for Jimmy Choux

Mark Smith - Saturday May 11

It was heartbreak again for supporters of Osborne Bulls who charged home from last on the turn to fall a nose short of the kiwi raider The Bostonian in Saturday's $800,000 Group 1 Doomben 10000 (1200m).

Veteran Queensland jockey Michael Cahill threaded the needle on The Bostonian to earn the 4yo son of Jimmy Choux a first win at the highest level and relegate Osborne Bulls to his fifth consecutive Group 1 second.

Now unbeaten in four starts in Queensland after winner at Doomben and a Listed and Group III stakes at the Sunshine Coast last winter, The Bostonian clung to a desperate long-head margin over Osborne Bulls (Street Cry) with Dollar For Dollar (High Chaparral) the same distance back in third. The Tony Pike-trained gelding advances his overall record to 8 wins and 2 seconds from 15 starts with earnings of $834,277.

Stable foreman Chris McNabb said the gelding has another Group 1 entry.

"We will now probably head straight to the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m on June 8)," McNabb told AAP.

"He was here mainly for it and he is a horse which does race well fresh."

A homebred for David Archer, The Bostonian is the third foal of the winning Keeper mare Keepa Cheval who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and NZ Horse Of The Year (King) Mufhasa (Pentire).

The Bostonian is a full-brother to the Chris Waller-trained Chaussure who was last seen winning consecutive races at Warwick Farm and Canterbury back in November 2016.

A Makfi colt out of Keepa Cheval was knocked down to Hong Kong's Alan Lee and Mr Danny Shum for $180,000 at last year's Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Keepa Cheval has a yearling filly by Rip Van Winkle (IRE) and a weanling colt by Iffraaj (GB). She was covered by Almanzor (FR) last spring.

The Bostonian becomes the first Group 1 winner for Jimmy Choux.

The result will be welcomed Wayne and Tracy Rodwell's Rosalee Park Stud in Serpentine, WA who will stand the 5-time Group 1 winning son of Thorn Park in 2019 following his transfer from Rich Hill Stud.
