Triple Crown Excited for Redzel Return

Media Release - Monday August 21
REDZEL tuned up towards a first start of the preparation with victory in Heat 3 of the Randwick Trials on Monday morning.

RedzelThe Group 1 Doomben 10,000 winner jumped smartly, taking up his customary position at the head of proceedings and was given a little squeeze from Kerrin McEvoy to see off the attentions of stablemate and Group 1 Galaxy Handicap winner Russian Revolution by a half a length, with a further back to four and a half lengths back to Happy Clapper, Everest hopeful English, and recent Missile Stakes runner-up Le Romain.

The Snitzel five-year-old looks set for a first start in Sydney with Group 2 race The Shorts over 1000m earmarked as a possible return on September 16, before a crack at the Group 1 Moir Stakes on September 29 at Moonee Valley.

Trainer Peter Snowden said: "He's working really well and I couldn't be happier with how he is right now.

"His trial today was solid and it's brought him right up to the mark for a first start which will most likely be The Shorts here at Randwick, leading in to the Moir two weeks later."

The Australian Turf Club held a luncheon promoting The Everest at Royal Randwick on Saturday where possible contenders for their slot were invited and Snowden confirmed interest in the race should a space open up.

"The Everest is a lucrative concept and it would be fantastic to be part of the first running of the race. It's exciting for the owners as it would be for ourselves if we had a runner in the race.

"He's proven at Group 1 level and he seems to have come back a stronger, more complete racehorse this preparation. He's up there as one of the best sprinters in the country and would deserve a slot in the race."
