Epsom Oaks Contender for Emirates Park

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 9
The Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester overnight in the UK was won in dazzling fashion by Frankel filly Mehdaayih, who is raced by Emirates Park.

The John Gosden trained filly won her final start last season at two before reappearing this year with a soft win in easier grade and confirmed her staying potential with this dominant four and a half length win in the 1m3 ½ f staying test.

Frankel is the sire of MehdaayihIn recent years this race has proven a great guide to Epsom Oaks success with Enable winning in 2017 before going on to win the Oaks and last year's runner-up Forever Together also won at Epsom.

"We'll have to discuss with the owner whether Mehdaayih will be supplemented for the Oaks. We'll see whether Mr Nasser Lootah would like to go to Epsom or he'd like to go somewhere else. She's a nice, athletic, well-balanced filly so you'd hope she'd be the right type for Epsom. We thought she'd run well but we didn't really think she'd go and do it like that. She must have enjoyed a bit of juice in the ground. She was quite impressive," said Thady Gosden, trainer's son.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Mehdaayih has won three of five starts and is the best of three winners from Sayyedati Symphony, a Gone West daughter of Champion 3YO Filly Sayyedati, who won five Group I races.

She becomes the 40th stakes-winner worldwide for Frankel.

Sayyedati Symphony was offered at the Goffs Breeding Stock Sale last year where she was bought by Victorian based Rosemont Stud for just 8,000 euros .
