Age Shall Not Weary Him

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 5

Not many horses are still going strong at age nine, but Redoute's Choice gelding Rock Magic showed he still had more to give when resuming from a spell on Sunday to win the Group III Northam Stakes in WA.

Off the scene since winning the Group III WATC Roma Cup in May last year, the Chris Gangemi trained gelding tuned up with a recent trial win and was good enough to score a neck win in the 1100 metre sprint as favourite.

Passed in when offered at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Arrowfield Stud, Rock Magic started his career with Paul Messara winning his first three starts at Scone and Canterbury.

Rock Magic as a yearlingSold to the West in 2014, Rock MagiC developed into a tough and consistent sprinter racking up nine stakes victories and finishing third in a Group I WATC Winterbottom Stakes and fourth in the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap.

He has the overall record of 16 wins and 12 placings from 46 starts with earnings in excess of $1.3 million.

Bred by Arrowfield in partnership, Rock Magic is the only winner from Group I winner Rockabubble, a troubled producer, who was retired from stud duty in 2017.

Rock Magic is one of 166 stakes-winners worldwide for Arrowfield Stud's much missed legend Redoute's Choice, who died in March.
