$220,000 for First Aussie Bred American Pharoah

The first Australian bred weanling by US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) made his presence felt at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Thursday when fetching $220,000.

American Pharoah colt from TribandConsigned for sale by Coolmore and snapped up by Aquis Farm, the athletic bay colt is the first foal of stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Triband, who comes from a top class international family featuring Group I winners such as Spinning World and Good Journey.

"We loved the colt and he is out of a mare by Fastnet Rock, who is going to have a significant influence as a broodmare sire," said Aquis Farm Chief Executive Shane McGrath.

"Dr Demi O'Byrne has gone around and looked at all the colts we had selected for our racing program and this colt rated the highest and was the one he wanted.

"The sire was a phenomenal racehorse and we have seen plenty of his stock around so far and they are lovely weanlings. If they all look like this foal then American Pharoah is a big chance of making it."

In the Northern Hemisphere, American Pharaoh has made a fast start to his stud career with his first three runners producing impressive winners in Ireland and the US in Monarch of Egypt and Maven.

US Horse of the Year in 2015, American Pharoah returns to Coolmore Australia for his third season at a fee of $66,000.
