Third Stakes-Winner for Better Than Ready

The Listed BRC Dalrello Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday produced a thrilling finish with Better Than Ready's Jagged Edge holding a nose margin over Deep Field's Deep Sea to give first season sires the quinella in the 1000 metre sprint.

Trained by Stuart Kendrick, Jagged Edge scored a dominant debut win at the Sunshine Coast on April 14 and took a step on from that to narrowly hold out Deep Sea, who charged home from off the pace to just miss.

Like the winner, Deep Sea was also a debut winner at his only previous outing, so both geldings clearly have above average ability and are going places.

Jagged Edge was a $46,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Eureka Stud draft forDarby Racing / De Burgh Equine and has won two from two earning $95,000 for his big group of Darby Racing owners.

Jagged Edge is a half-brother to Group III winner Dan Baroness and is the tenth winner from 10 to race from top producer Weekend Surprise, a daughter of Rubiton.

The current yearling from Weekend Surprise is a colt by Spirit of Boom that made $220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale when bought by James Harron Bloodstock.

Jagged Edge is the third stakes-winner for Lyndhurst Stud's exciting young sire Better Than Ready, who has had a fee increase for 2019 and stands at a fee of $33,000.

Better Than Ready is the leading Australian first crop sire by winners with 16 on the board.
