Siren On Song In Star Kingdom Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday March 30

With just five runs under her belt since winning the Group III Dark Jewel Stakes at Scone 11 months ago, the 5yo Myboycharlie (IRE) mare Siren's Fury scored a slogging win in Saturday's Group III Star Kingdom Stakes at Randwick.

With the Group 1 winner's Estijaab and Music Magnate setting a solid pace, Siren's Fury came from last under Tim Clark to defeat Manuel by a long-head with a length back to the kiwi Ardrossan a length back in third. (image Steve Hart)

"We always thought there would be tempo on, but you're disheartened through the day as every leader keeps kicking," winning trainer Jason Coyle said.

"But Tim said before the race a couple of those races were very much tempo related so if the tempo was on here, she was going to be the horse to run over the top of them.

"I couldn't have the horse better today. She had a little setback so we missed running in the 1500m today and we decided to come back. Had a trial last week and today at the 1200m I thought it may be a shade short.

"Mid-race when she wasn't really travelling that strong, she was only just keeping in contact, I guess the positive thoughts were slowly dying away. She's always strong late and it was good to see her charge to the line.

"She's a really nice mare and hopefully she can go up to another level as well.

"The plan was to go up to a mile, but we might back off her now and go to Hawkesbury and then back up to Scone."

With her second Group III success, Siren's Fury advanced her record to 6 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $474275.

Bred by Torryburn Stud, Siren's Fury is a half-sister to the top-class Hong Kong sprinter Hot King Prawn (Denman) who has won a pair of Group II races in the former colony.

They are the best of five winners from seven to race out of the Sydney winning Unbridled's Song (USA) mare De Chorus whose 3yo Smart Missile filly The Soloist took her record to three wins from five starts at Goulburn last Monday.

De Chorus has an unraced 2yo Your Song colt maned Deauville, a yearling filly by The Factor and a Capitalist colt foal.

She was covered by Denman last spring.
