What the jockeys said after the PB Lawrence Stakes

Brad Waters - Saturday August 19

Godolphin galloper Hartnell made an emphatic start to his spring preparation with dominant win in Saturday's Group II PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Godolphin decided to campaign Hartnell exclusively in Melbourne in the spring rather than tackle champion mare Winx in Sydney.

Craig Williams gave Hartnell ($2.80) the perfect run before the import defeated Charmed Harmony ($26) by 2 ¼ lengths while the Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart ($3.60) was third.

Below is what the jockeys had to say about the performances of their PB Lawrence Stakes mounts.

HARTNELL

CRAIG WILLIAMS

If he didn't come here on Tuesday and have a look at the track, he probably still wins but I have more of a disagreement with him around the bend. Today's win and the experience makes him a more seasoned horse here in Victoria.

CHARMED HARMONY

KATELYN MALLYON

Really happy with his run. It was super.

3rd

BLACK HEART BART

BRAD RAWILLER

Pleased with the run. He was always going to be susceptible with the wet ground. He's set towards the Memsie so he'll improve greatly from this. He did get on one rein, which he normally wouldn't do but I think that was just ring rust.

Great return. He couldn't have got that close to Black Heart Bart last prep so he's taken a few steps forward and we look forward to this preparation.

TOSEN STARDOM

BEN ALLEN

He might need some headgear to show his best.

I was happy with him.

Lovely return and she'll just clean up nicely for the Feehan (Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes) in three weeks.

LUKE CURRIE

Nice first-up run. She was nice and fresh and held her ground but she'll improve off that.

I thought he travelled nicely and got a little tired late. I thought he ran OK.
