Ben Dorries - Saturday August 19

Havasay was backed for a stack and didn't let his backers down by producing the most impressive win of the day at Doomben.

Liam Birchley's rapidly improving gelding was $3.40 on Saturday morning but firmed to $2.05 and cashed in with an impressive three-length win in the Class Six Plate (1200m).

Apprentice Matt McGillivray produced a peach of a ride and pressed the go button at exactly the right time as he sat off them and pounced to win with authority.

"There was still a lot left in the tank on the line, he is a serious horse," McGillivray said.

"I was getting itchy fingers in the run but when I went for him he put them away in two strides."

Havasay has now won two in a row for Birchley, thumping Publishing Power ($10) by three lengths with another 1½ lengths to Backslapper ($18).

His next main aim is the riches of the Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival in January.

"I haven't got another horse racing this full of confidence," Birchley said.

"I may give him another run before heading to Magic Millions QTIS race which will be his main goal."
