Magic Opportunity Not to Miss

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 14
The 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale (March 18, 19) offers the perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a young stallion who has all the makings of a superstar sire of the future.

The Queensland breeding industry has been boosted in the past two years by the emergence of two exciting young sires in Spirit of Boom and Better Than Ready, with Spill the Beans poised to follow in their footsteps.

Spill the BeansRetired to Aquis Farm in 2016, brilliant Group II winning sprinter Spill the Beans was the first son of champion sire Snitzel to go to stud in Queensland and was greeted with much enthusiasm by local broodmare owners.

An undefeated two year-old, with a perfect mix of pedigree, good looks and race performance, Spill the Beans covered 202 mares making him the most popular first season sire in the country.

Spill the Beans had only small numbers at the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January, but that proved no hurdle to making his presence felt.

Leading Hunter Valley nursery Segenhoe Stud enjoyed a spectacular pinhooking success with a powerful chestnut colt by Spill the Beans.

Segenhoe purchased the colt from Love of Liberty for $50,000 from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and when re-offered as a yearling he made $280,000 to the bid of Spill the Beans former trainer Gerald Ryan.

"Spill the Beans is leaving yearlings better than himself. Great types, well balanced horses and with a great temperament," Ryan enthused.

The big result for the Love of Liberty colt was not an isolated success for Spill the Beans, whose only other yearling offered in Book One, a colt from Khameela, made $170,000 for Arrowfield Stud when secured by Aquis Racing/ Tony Gollan Racing.

His average for two yearlings sold of $225,000 equated to 20.4 times his service fee of $11,000, a remarkable result!

The next step for Spill the Beans youngsters is on the racetrack and Peter McMahon of Kolora Lodge has broken in no fewer than 13 so far and is more than happy.

"They are displaying early traits of athleticism and attitude, combined with youthful enthusiasm that will produce some early 2YO speedy types," said McMahon.
