Punters did their dosh on a short-priced favourite in the first at Doomben and jockey Robbie Fradd offered up an unusual post-race excuse.
Four-year old Toby Edmonds gelding Impregnable ($1.40) was backed as though unbeatable but never looked a winning chance and was beaten 2.1 lengths into third place in the 1050m sprint.
Veteran former South African hoop Fradd had the sprinter back fourth last on the turn and he couldn't make up much ground on winner Mr Hennessy ($10).
After the race Fradd said the I Am Invincible gelding needed 1200m but also offered up another excuse.
"I think the high winds out there unsettled him quite a bit," Fradd said.
"He went up in the barriers and jumped forward and banged his head.
"It was probably the wind that spooked him."
