Racenet lays for Saturday

Breednet - Friday August 18

Spring racing is here and the Racenet analysts have put their heads together to give punters another tool to help them turn a profit with the Racenet lays of the day.

Below are the favoured runners that the Racenet men have discounted as winning chances on Saturday.

OMEI SWORD

$2.35

A risk taking on a Chris Waller-trained mare of this quality however, there do look several reasons to. She is first-up after suffering a bleeding attack and she is racing against open company for the first time. Not sure the inside draw will be ideal for her either in a race that looks to have plenty of speed in it. Of course it could just set up for her to get home over the top of them but at this price, not for us.

BRAVE SMASH

$3.70

Japanese import that has been backed into favouritism on the strength of a jumpout at Mortlake but appears way under the odds. Hasn't won below 1500m, hasn't won for 21 months and is taking on some seasoned Australian sprinters in a race with several chances. The Melbourne weather could play a part with some unsuited if it comes up soft but as it stands we'd rather wait and see how he races than pile in at this price.

Doomben

MISHANI EL LOBO

$2.80

Has already been backed into favouritism but we must be missing something. Drops in weight but has a bit to find on ratings against some horses in form. Hasn't won in seven starts since winning on a heavy track at Murwillumbah. Drawn to get a good run but he just looks plenty short enough to us.

Morphettville

THE WILLYBE

$3.20

Difficult to be confident about anything at this meeting but happy to risk The Willybe. Likely to race on speed but there is some speed in the race doesn't look like he will get a cheap pace in a small field. Racing consistently but looks to be a couple too good for him again in this.

Belmont

DEBELLATIO

$2.70

Arguably the best two-year-old in the state last season but if he is going to be vulnerable in his second season it is first-up on a soft track here. He's the best in the race and likely to be finishing hard but he's giving weight away to some fit rivals so prepared to risk him at the price.
