Quezette Stakes runner below the radar

Darryl Sherer - Friday August 18

While most of the focus in Saturday's Quezette Stakes (1200m) has been on the Lindsay Park runners, one stakes winner in the race with a Cox Plate nomination has gone relatively unnoticed.

Seannie has been nominated for the Cox Plate, Caulfield Guineas and the Thousand Guineas in the spring and is now prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young at Cranbourne.

Winner of the Listed Supremacy Stakes at Ascot over 1000m in March when trained by Simon Miller, Seannie has not raced since finishing sixth in the Group II Karrakatta Plate over 1200m in April.

"She's certainly pleased us and shown us she's got plenty of ability - she's had a couple of jumpouts and is working very well," Busuttin said.

"We're still learning about her but she's certainly ready to go to the races.

"Her best win was over 1000 metres but she gives us the impression she'll be better over a bit further and I think she can stretch out to the mile which opens up her options.

"She's won the Listed race in Perth and the aim for us is to add to that record here over the spring."

Seannie has drawn barrier 10 and Busuttin said he expects the three-year-old to settle off the speed.

"She'll go back and then hopefully Dwayne (Dunn) can get on the back of something and get a tow into the race. From there we'll be looking for her to hit the line," Busuttin said.

"That said, she has won both her starts first-up and we're thinking she will be competitive."

Dwayne Dunn will be aboard Seannie, available at $14 with several wagering operators behind the $2.80 favourite Catchy.
