In a significant boost to buyers, yearlings purchased in the inaugural Highway Session (Book 2) at next week's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale will also be eligible for the $100,000 Inglis Challenge 2YO race in Scone in 2020.
Previously, only horses purchased at the Scone Yearling Sale have been eligible for the Inglis Challenge, which is run during the Scone Cup Carnival in May.
The Scone bonanza comes on top of the already significant $50,000 Inglis Highway Bonus which is being introduced this year.
Wednesday February 13 will be a Highway Race Day at Warwick Farm featuring two Highway Handicaps – one for Country-trained horses and one for Provincial-trained horses.
If the winner of either race is an eligible Inglis graduate (paid up for the current or a former Inglis Race Series), the winning trainer will receive a $50,000 credit voucher to spend at the Highway Session the following day.
There are 205 horses catalogued for the Highway Session, which will take place at Riverside Stables on Thursday February 14.
Inglis' NSW Bloodstock Manager Chris Russell said the change would prove a boost for both vendors and buyers.
"There's been a huge volume of interest from country and provincial trainers especially regarding the Highway Session, many of whom have asked if graduates from the session will be or could be made eligible for the Inglis Challenge,'' Russell said.
"In consideration of this, we have decided to act on that client demand and open up our Scone 2YO race to Highway Session graduates as well.
"Highway Session graduates will also still be eligible for the lucrative $8m Inglis Race Series, making it a must-attend session of the Classic Sale.
