First Winner for Proisir

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 18

Exciting young Rich Hill Stud stallion Proisir got off the mark in outstanding style at Tauranga this afternoon.

Tappy's One - Race ImagesHis son Tappy's One thumped his rivals to nail down a spot in the country's richest two-year-old event.

"The timing couldn't be better with the sales coming up," Rich Hill's John Thompson said.

"It just confirms all the great feedback we've had from trainers on the progeny of Proisir.

"There's some really good yearlings out there by him and he's got more in Books 1 and 2 at Karaka than last year.

"He's served very good numbers since he's been here and a better quality book in his second season, which came about because his full brother Divine Prophet won the Caulfield Guineas in the early spring."

The Stephen McKee-trained Tappy's One has now banked enough prize money to be guaranteed a Karaka Million start.

Tappy's One was bred by strong Proisir supporter Ian Taplin and raced by him with McKee's father Trevor.

"I got a call from Stephen straight after the race and he's really excited about the horse's Guineas prospects for next season, more so than the Karaka Million," Taplin said.

Proisir"But Stephen does fully expect that Trevor will be pushing for the Karaka Million if the horse pulls up well.

"I told him to listen to his father, I'm really excited about him racing in it."

He is from the family of the Gr.1 Levin Classic winner Bunker.

The Gr.2 Great Northern Guineas winner Petanque and the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas winner Red Baron are also in the pedigree.

Tappy's One was settled in behind the leader by rider Sam Spratt and was into the clear at the top of the straight.

They strode to the front 200 metres from home and shot clear to win untested.
