Karaka Graduates Comes Full Circle

Karaka 2019 will showcase the first crops of yearlings by a quality group of new sires, including some who themselves went through the ring and are now bringing their careers full-circle.

Mongolian Khan(Holy Roman Emperor) sold for $140,000 at the 2013 Select Sale at Karaka and fetched $220,000 at the Ready to Run Sale later that year.

Mongolian KhanHe became a racetrack superstar, winning eight races and more than $4.1 million in prizemoney. He was the first horse to complete the Group 1 treble of the New Zealand Derby, Australian Derby and Caulfield Cup, and he was a two-time KermadecNew Zealand Horse of the Year.

He is the sire of 41 yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue, including24 in Book 1and15 in Book 2.

Kermadec(NZ) (Teofilo) was a $260,000 purchase at the 2013 Premier Sale at Karaka.

He was also a multiple Group 1 winner, taking out the Doncaster Mile and George Main Stakes in Sydney. He also placed in the George Ryder Stakes (twice), All Aged Stakes and Canterbury Stakes, earning more than A$2.9 million in prizemoney.

He is the sire of 19 yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue withnine in Book 1andone in Book 2.

Vespa(NZ) (Elusive City) cost just $34,000 at the 2013 Select Sale.

He won seven races and more than $916,000 in stakes, headed by the Karaka Million 2YO, Group 1 Diamond Stakes and Listed Northland Breeders' Stakes.

He is the sire of six yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue –five in Book 2andone in Book 3.

The Bold One(NZ) Fastnet Rock) went through the Karaka sale ring in the 2012 Premier Sale, but did not reach his $490,000 reserve.

He showed immense potential in his short career, winning four races and placing in another five, including the Listed Levin Stakes.

He is the sire ofsix yearlings in Book 3at Karaka.

Australasia's New Blood

Bull Point(Fastnet Rock) is a half-brother to the Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Siege Of Quebec.

He won four races, two at two, including the Group 3 Manfred Stakes. He finished second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes and Crystal Mile, and third in the Group 1 Golden Rose and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

He is the sire of two yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue withone in Book 1andone in Book 2.

Complacent(Authorized) won five races including the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes and Group 3 Gloaming Stakes, while also running second in the Group 1 Victoria Derby.

He is the sire of 18 yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue withtwo of those in Book 1,10 in Book 2andsix in Book 3.

ContributerContributer(High Chaparral) was Australia's champion miler in 2014-15. He won eight races including the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes, Group 1 Ranvet Stakes, Group 2 Apollo Stakes and Group 3 David Jones Cup. He also ran third in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes.

He is the sire of 35 yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue and will have20 in Book 1,14 in Book 2andone in Book 3.

Exosphere(Lonhro) won five races, including the Group 1 Golden Rose, Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, Group 2 Run To The Rose and Group 2 Skyline Stakes.

He has10 yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue, all in Book 1.

Free Eagle(High Chaparral) was joint champion older horse in Europe and Ireland in 2015. He won three races, including the Group 1 Royal Ascot Prince Of Wales's Stakes and the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes, and was third in the Group 1 Champion Stakes and Irish Champion Stakes.

He is the sire ofLot 642in Book 1 of the Karaka 2019 catalogue.

Headwater(Exceed and Excel) is a son of the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate-winning Hurricane Sky mare River Dove.

He won three races, including the Group 2 Silver Slipper while also finishing third in the Group 2 Todman Stakes and fourth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes.

He hasLot 394in Book 1 of the Karaka 2019 catalogue.

Night of Thunder(Dubawi) was a superstar miler in Europe, winning the Group 1 English 2000 Guineas and the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes. He also placed in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Royal Ascot St James's Palace Stakes and Prix du Moulin.

He has four yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue, includingthree in Book 1andone in Book 2.

No Nay Never(Scat Daddy) was champion two-year-old colt in France in 2013. He won four races, including the Group 1 Prix Morny, Group 2 Royal Ascot Norfolk Stakes and Group 3 Woodford Stakes. Also placed in the Group 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.

By the same ill-fated sire as last year's unbeaten Triple Crown champion Justify, No Nay Never has made an immediate impact at stud. His first northern hemisphere crop featured 33 winners from 62 runners, six of them at stakes level including Group 1 winner Ten Sovereigns.

He has three yearlings in the Karaka 2019 catalogue withtwo in Book 1andone in Book 2.

Press Statement(Hinchinbrook) is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Pressday, and he did even better than his older sibling with six wins including the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and JJ Atkins Stakes, plus the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes and Stan Fox Stakes. Placed in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and George Ryder Stakes.

He is the sire ofthree yearlings in Book 1of Karaka 2019.

Pride of Dubai(Street Cry) completed a Group 1 double as a two-year-old in the Blue Diamond and ATC Sires' Produce Stakes.

He hasfive yearlings in Book 1.

Real Impact(Deep Impact) is by a sire generating global hype, and he is a half-brother to two stakes winners including Neoralism (Group 1 Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth II Cup).

He won eight races including the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and Tokyo Yasuda Kinen. He also placed in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, Nakayama Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes and Tokyo NHK Mile Cup.

He will havetwo yearlings in Book 1andone in Book 2.

Rich Enuff(Written Tycoon) made a big impression early in his career with wins in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes, Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude and Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes. He also placed in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

He hastwo yearlings in Book 1of Karaka 2019.

Sweynesse(Lonhro) comes from a strong family, being a half-brother to the Group 3-winning and Group 1-placed Rimraam.

He won four races including the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes and Spring Stakes, and he placed in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and Spring Champion Stakes, plus the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes.

He is the sire of 23 yearlings at Karaka 2019 –five in Book 1,10 in Book 2andeight in Book 3.

VancouverVancouver(Medaglia d'Oro) is a half-brother to two stakes winners including a Group 1 winner (Juste Momente), and he lived up to his pedigree with an outstanding racetrack career.

He was the champion two-year-old colt in Australia in 2014-15, winning four races including the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group 2 Todman Stakes, Group 3 Canonbury Stakes and Listed Breeders' Plate.

He is the sire of12 yearlings in Book 1.

Il Cavallo(Choisir) (1),Nostradamus(Medaglia d'Oro) (4),Outreach(Exceed and Excel) (1) andScissor Kick(Redoute's Choice) (1) will all have representation in Book 2 and Book 3.
