Offered
by Goodwood Farmas Lot 1002, the filly was purchased by Gold Coast based
bloodstock agent Grant Morgan through his Ontrack Thoroughbreds operation for
$230,000.
It's not surprising that Morgan is a big fan of the exciting young Darley stallion as he purchased and syndicated Brazen Beau as a yearling.
The sale topping filly is the third foal of the Sydney and Melbourne winning Exceed and Excel mare Iriomote.
"I thought she was a real two-year-old type," Morgan said. "I haven't brought many earlier types before but this filly looks a great chance to be here (in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic) next year."
"She is from an Exceed and Excel mare and is bred on the same cross as the current Golden Slipper favourite Tassort."
"I formed a group of clients to purchase a horse for leading Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds and this is the filly that fitted the bill," Morgan added.
Three yearlings both sold for $160,000 – a Sebring filly from Milburn Creek to Liam Birchley and two youngsters from KBL Thoroughbreds,a Deep Field colt to Upper Bloodstock and a Better Than Ready filly to Peter Dalziel Professional Horsebreaking.
All up almost $10 million was traded on 155 lots sold at an average price of almost $64,000. The clearance rate slipped on last year's record breaking Book Two sale to 72 per cent.
"There were plenty of great sales today, albeit the market was very selective," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.
"We are disappointed in our clearance rate given there was a good crowd and buying bench in attendance."
"We are thrilled with the week. To eclipse $180 million for the first time ever is a testament to the support of both our vendors and buyers and the faith they have in Magic Millions."
"I would like to congratulate and thank the entire Magic Millions team in making the event another huge success," Bowditch added.
Book Three of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale (34 lots) will be held from 11am on Tuesday and will be followed by the Gold Coast Summer Racehorse Sale (44 lots).
