Top bets from Clinton Payne for Randwick Saturday

Clinton Payne - Saturday August 19

I love punting when there's a transition of horses at the start of a carnival and I'm keen to get my teeth into Saturday's Randwick meeting knowing we'll be playing on a firm track.

ALIZEE (Randwick Race 1 No 5)
The raps have been big on this girl since the trials leading up to her first start and she showed what's ahead with her emphatic first-up win when trouncing Wednesday impressive winner Songlike in a Warwick Farm maiden in August. Prior to that she got quite fizzy and she's a big girl so I've no doubt there is plenty of upside to come. I really think Alizee is going to relish a firm surface and the big long Randwick straight allowing her to she'll show on Saturday what she's capable of and I'll also be playing the quinella with Formality. She has Catchy form as a juvenile, her trials have been good and being by Fastnet Rock it's fair to expect she'll be better at three too.

ODDS $2.45 @ Sportsbet, Ladbrokes, Luxbet

EBENOS (Randwick Race 4 No 9)
Ebenos is an attractive betting proposition on Saturday with a big weight drop. He's a new season four-year-old that's proven at stakes level and he should be at his top now of two solid closing efforts with big weights over less suitable trips. He gives the impression he'll relish 1400m and he maps to get favours in the run. I reckon he's great value at above $5.

ANTONIO GIUSEPPE (Randwick Race 6 No 4)
I'll be playing the place markets and Winx out markets with this bloke. His trial behind Winx at Randwick recently was top notch and he's a horse that has shown what he capable of fresh in the past. When I take Winx out of the equation I look at the race and am expecting both Inference and Harper's Choice to get negative rides from their wide gates, I'm happy to take Foxplay on until she shows me she's up to weight-for-age which leaves me with Ecuador being the horse I have to beat into second. There's $2.05 around for him to place – taking that and expecting to get $4 plus in the Winx out markets.
BET: PLACE
ODDS $2.05 @ CrownBet, Luxbet

SHAZEE LEE (Randwick Race 7 No 9)
There was plenty of horses spruiked at the set of Randwick trials on August 8 and this was the horse that was my real surprise packet. Her trial was every bit as good as Dixie Blossom's and she gets a big weight advantage over that mare here. When you can find a horse that goes from level X to level Y from one campaign to another you get an edge and that's what I reckon I've found here. She showed good ability in the autumn winning the Hawkesbury Guineas and I reckon we'll see a better horse again this spring. I'm not overly thrilled about the speedmap, I'd expect she probably has to go back to last but there looks ok speed and at the odds I'm still really keen to be playing.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS $26 @ Sportsbet, Ladbrokes, Bet365

GIBRALTAR GIRL (Randwick Race 9 No 6)
We have to wait until the last for the best but confident it will be worth the wait. The first massive tick is we're going to be on a good track because this mare is a much better horse when on top of the ground. Go back and look at her first couple of runs last prep and they were on a swamp. Her trials leading up to this have been great and they will run which plays into her hands. This one's a no brainer for me – the more you bet the more you win.
BET: WIN
ODDS $5 @ Bet365
