Having
a team of fit and happy stallions at the start of a busy breeding season is
number one priority at Newgate Farm.
The Newgate roster now features 13 stallions and their physical and mental
preparation for spring is an important process overseen by Breeding Shed
Manager Peter Keating that is
highlighted in this video featuring Wandjina.
The stallions enjoy daily ridden exercise that has them fit and focused for the
task ahead.
"We've developed a program to get these horses fit for the breeding season,"
said Peter Keating.
"They trot for about two miles to warm up and then they canter and do some
strong pacework for about a mile and a half, to two miles, five days a week and
they really enjoy it.
"We try and give them every little bit of attention we can.
"We need them in Golden Slipper form on the first of September!"
