Million Dollar Mare for Hinchinbrook

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 1
Quality Hinchinbrook mare Whispering Brook was a two year-old sensation in Perth winning her first five starts in succession highlighted by the Group II WATC Karrakatta Plate and is still going strong at age five with a stylish victory in the Group III VRC Standish Handicap at Flemington on New Year's Day.

Trained in the earlier part of her career in Western Australia by Simon Miller, Whispering Brook joined the Darren Weir stable last year and was fifth in the Group I SAJC Sangster Stakes back in May before heading for a spell.

"She's come back with a vengeance," said winning rider Dean Yendall.

"She was there to be beaten but stuck on too well."

Stable representative Brady Cross indicated another tilt at the Group I SAJC Sangster Classic, 1200 metre sprint in Adelaide for mares, was on the cards in 2019.

"She's in flying form and improving with every run," he said.

A $45,000 Magic Millions National Weanling purchase from the Hillside Thoroughbreds draft for Aquanita Racing, Whispering Brook has won nine of 22 starts earning over $1million in prizemoney.

Bred by Hillside Thoroughbreds, Whispering Brook is the best of two winners for Artful Whisper (USA), a half-sister to stakes-winner High Maintenance from the family of Champion European sprinter milers Pas de Response and Green Tune..

She has a yearling colt by Hinchinbrook that will be offered by Maluka Thoroughbreds at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sales as Lot 54 and was covered last year by another Fastnet Rock stallion in Your Song.

Whispering Brook is the fourth millionaire performer for Yarraman Park's much missed Hinchinbrook joining Flying Jess, the Hong Kong based sprinter Beat the Clock and Press Statement, whose first yearlings will be on show at Magic Millions next week.
