He
may never soar to the heights of his champion full sister More Joyous, but this
lightly raced four year-old gelding is now a winner and did the job in style at
the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Transferred from the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott after two unplaced
runs at the provincials earlier this year to the Gold Coast stables of Toby
Edmonds, Sunday Session seems to have found his mojo in Queensland.
Bred and retained to race by John Singleton, Sunday Session was sent out
favourite and led all the way over 1800 metres to win by four lengths in a
dominant display.
He is the fifth winner from seven to race from Sunday Silence's Group I ATC
Australian Oaks winner Sunday Joy, whose star daughter More Joyous won 21 races
and $4.5 million in prizemoney and eight Group I wins.
Sunday Joy is still going strong at age 19 and has a two year-old colt by Fastnet
Rock called Lewis, a yearling filly by More Joyous and Sunday Session's sire More
Than Ready (USA) and a filly foal by the same sire.
