Bloodstockauction Celebrates Record Year in 2018

Media Release - Thursday December 20

Bloodstockauction (BSA) is celebrating their best-ever year at the conclusion of 2018.

This was the year of change with weekly auctions being introduced in December 2017, continuing all throughout 2018. The Thoroughbred & Racing community have welcomed the weekly auctions with open arms, and Bloodstockauction.com are proud to have maintained an average catalogue of 71 horses per auction.

Director Anthony Gafa said "In 2017 we had an average catalogue of 110 horses per auction, but our auctions operated on a fortnightly basis. Now that we are weekly, we have seen a 30% increase in the number of listings in each auction which is terrific."

In June this year Bloodstockauction.com celebrated its 10,000thlisting and by the end of 2018, will hit 12,000 listings. This is a remarkable achievement for a company that is only in its fourth year of operation. The company has achieved 34% growth compared to 2017 and has also increased their clearance rate above 72%, as well as increased their average sale price over previous years.

"Not only are we listing more horses and selling more, but most importantly we are achieving a better sales result for our clients," said Mr Gafa.

In August this year, Bloodstockauction.com hosted their Annual Online Stallion Cover Charity Auction for the 2nd year and smashed their fundraising goal, raising more than $100,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney. This was double the amount raised last year.

The auction featured over 70 stallion covers from some of the best and most successful stallions in both Australia and New Zealand. Stallions owners and Stud Masters donated their stallion covers, electing to donate either 50% or 100% of the proceeds towards the cause. Many of the donations were unreserved.

"My team and I were absolutely blown away by the support and generosity from the industry. It was definitely a huge highlight of our year!" said Mr Gafa.

Bloodstockauction.com are already planning a bigger and better charity auction in 2019 and look forward to welcoming a greater number of high profile studs on board.

In September Bloodstockauction.com introduced a new SHARES category, offering an exciting opportunity for their members to own a percentage of some very impressive horses. It was great to see BLUEBLOOD THOROUGHBREDS and DARBY RACING supporting this exciting new addition. Bloodstockauction.com look forward to growing this further throughout 2019.

2018 has also been a great year for strengthening existing and developing new partnerships with studs, clients, advertisers and sponsors.

South Australian Stud, Goldin Farms, and their up and coming superstar sire AKEED MOFEED were the breakout success of 2018, achieving a 100% clearance rate through the site. His 2015 crop are now proving themselves amongst the field as 3yos, with Sunset Watch placing 2nd in the Gr3 Listed Australia Stakes at Morphettville in October. Heart Conquered (2015) is showing huge promise, amassing $91,750 in prize money from just 5 races to date. Very exciting times are no doubt ahead for anyone lucky enough to have secured themselves AKEED MOFEED progeny this year!

"On behalf of the Bloodstockauction.com Team, I would like to say a special thank you to all that have supported us throughout 2018. We would not have had experienced the growth we've had without you, and we look forward to working with you all in the New Year," said Mr Gafa.

Bloodstockauction.com will continue to support the industry and provide innovative, cutting edge technology that delivers results.

In the meantime, there will be a short shutdown period over Christmas with the last final countdown for the year on Christmas Day at 7pm AEDT. The first auction for 2019 will go live on the 10th of January, with the final countdown on the 15th of January.

Entries can still be entered up until 6pm Thursday, 20th December and online at www.bloodstockauction.com or via 1300 849 349 over the shutdown period.
