Time and again the quality New Zealand-bred attracts the industry's heavy hitters from near and far and Karaka 2019 will once again offer an extensive selection of kiwi sire power, along with strong representation from leading Australian sires and shuttlers. There are 116 stallion profiles represented across all three Books, including the first crop of 20 exciting young sires.

"The support we have had this year from major breeders in New Zealand has been exceptional – the best I can remember in a very long time" commented NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.

Aussie G1 star Grunt is a Karaka graduate"With fewer horses going to Australian yearling sales to be sold, there has definitely been an increase in the strength of the catalogues."

In 2018, NZB introduced a format change that reached phenomenal heights in trading and the winning formula is set to stay for 2019 with a sensational week of selling, world-famous hospitality and million-dollar racing carded.

The first 100 yearlings will go under the hammer from 3.00pm at the opening session of Book 1 on Sunday 27 January.

Book 1 presents 698 of the very best yearlings available in the country with compelling pedigrees and powerhouse sires to savour. Selling of the remaining Book 1 Lots will continue from Monday 28 January to Wednesday 30 January. This session was the source of 13 individual Group One winners last season alone including Bonneval (NZ) (Makfi), Grunt (NZ) (O'Reilly), Mighty Boss (Not a Single Doubt) and Unforgotten (Fastnet Rock).

Book 2 has consistently delivered results on the racetrack and is widely regarded as the value sale of the world. Hong Kong's Horse of the Year and the Longines World's Best Turf Miler Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock) was purchased for just $60,000 out of this session. In 2019, Book 2 will have 378 yearlings catalogued and will run across Thursday 31 January and Friday 1 February.

Book 3 will see the final 208 yearlings go under the hammer on Sunday 3 February. In recent years, Book 3 has produced top performers such as Singapore stakes winner Gilt Complex (NZ) (Gold Centre) and Group One winner Gaultier.

The winning edge that horses from the Karaka sale ring display is evidenced by the fact NZB Yearling Sale graduates provided a total of 120 stakes wins and 18 Group One wins last season.

A remarkable five out of the possible seven Group One Guineas races in Australasia in the 2017-18 season were claimed by these world-beating yearlings as well as both the New Zealand Oaks and Australian Oaks. The non-stop success reaches the racing scene of Hong Kong and Singapore where graduates scored 17 stakes wins last season of which five were at Group One level.

Adding further appeal to the bloodstock that will be on offer, all yearlings offered at Karaka 2019 are eligible for the lucrative Karaka Million Series. They will have the opportunity to race for $2 million with the $1 million Karaka Million 2YO in 2020 and the $1 million Karaka Million 3YO Classic in 2021.

The synergy between premium bloodstock, Group One accolades and world-famous hospitality combine at New Zealand Bloodstock for an unforgettable experience – and make the Karaka Sales Centre the perfect destination to begin your winning journey.
