HKJC Purchase Charm Spirit Colt

Media Release - Wednesday November 21

The Hong Kong Jockey Club were active on the first day of New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale on Wednesday, purchasing a Charm Spirit colt for $250,000.

Charm Spirit colt from Lady KiplingSold by Prima Park, lot 77 is out of a half-sister to dual Group Two winner Lady Kipling, and Mark Richards of The Hong Kong Jockey Club said he was pleased with their purchase.

"He's just a nice balanced horse with very much a sprinter's look about him. He has plenty of depth behind the saddle which is often what we're looking for," Richards said.

"Charm Spirit is by a champion sire in Invincible Spirit and he's made a cracking start of things in the northern hemisphere.

"He's got a Group winner and more than 20 other winners. He's made a good start. This horse looks like a sharp horse, so fingers-crossed he'll turn out to be a good one."

The son of Charm Spirit has been earmarked to go through the ring again at The Hong Kong Jockey Club's international sales.

"He'll go to the international sales but that won't be until 2020," Richards said. "We've got the best part of 18 months with him at least between now and then.

"I should think that he'll be an even better horse once we get him gelded as well, I think that'll only be to his advantage." NZ Racing Desk
