Cool Passion Turns Back The Clock

It's a big decision to keep a Group III winning seven-year-old daughter of Not A Single Doubt in training but for John and Ann McDonald it's paying off big time with the Tony McEvoy-trained Cool Passion who added Saturday's Group III Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) to her win in the Group III Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at Flemington 11 days previously.

Sent off favourite under Kerrin McEvoy, Cool Passion moved into a challenging position on the turn, hit the lead at the 300 metres then safely held First Among Equals by a long-neck with Savanna Amour two and a quarter lengths back in third.

With her third stakes win the daughter of Not A Single Doubt advancer her record to 11 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $630,625.

Tony McEvoy believes the decision to keep Cool Passion in training could pay off with a Group 1 win in the autumn.

"She was courageous at Flemington and to come here at WFA against the boys was a really good performance," he said.

"It just shows she is an elite level mare. She hasn't had many opportunities at the elite level, but she will in the autumn when we get her to a Group 1 in Adelaide. 

"She's lightly raced and has got more to come. She loves her role and is a big strong mare and a very good one and I was thrilled with her today.

"She'll go home now and have a little break, we will just jog her for a while and go into that race (the Sangster Stakes) at her third or fourth run.

A half-sister to the Listed winner Havana Wind (Spinning World), Cool Passion is one of four winners out of the lightly raced Mister C mare Hiavanna a half-sister to Group III winner and Group I placed Headstrong (Archregent).

Hiavanna was pensioned in 2015.

Arrowfield Stud's Not A Single Doubt (photo Mark Smith ) has 30 yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast in January.
