Prima Park Draft Set to Shine

Media Release - Friday November 16

In a short time Prima Park has built a high profile on the thoroughbred sales landscape, and that will be enhanced by another quality draft going forward to the 2018 Ready to Run Sale with well educated youngsters guaranteed to suit buyers with budgets big and small.

The Van Dyk family's base is in thoroughbred heartland at Mystery Creek, near Cambridge, where they have developed a purpose-built sales preparation and agistment business from a bare block of land purchased in 2016.

The previous year had provided a breakthrough on two fronts for Prima Park, beginning with the best vendors' average at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale and followed by the same status on the Ready to Run Sale averages' table.

As relative newcomers to the thoroughbred sales game, that gave Leighton and Louise Van Dyke and their daughter Kelly a massive confidence boost in cementing their place in the bloodstock industry.

Just as importantly, graduates of Prima Park drafts have gone on to perform, as underlined by Debt Collector and Beat The Clock.

Thorn Park colt Debt Collector (pictured above) , bought as a Karaka Select yearling for $30,000 from breeders Windsor Park Stud and pinhooked at $120,000 to Singapore trainer Cliff Brown, became Singapore Horse of the Year in 2016 with a sequence of wins headed by the Raffles Cup (1800m), Kranji Mile (1600m), Jumbo Jet Trophy (1400m), Singapore Guineas (1600m) and Singapore Classic (1400m).

Beat The Clock (pictured above), a Hinchinbrook colt sold by Prima Park at the 2015 Ready to Run Sale for $200,000 to Australian agent Bill Mitchell, has won six times in Hong Kong from the John Size stable. His best win to date came in the Gr. 2 Hong Kong Sprint Cup (1200m), while he has been placed in another four stakes events.

"Getting good results in the ring and then to see our horses perform so well on the track is very satisfying," Kelly Van Dyk said. "I think the stats tell the story – we've had wins in every market we've sold to – Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau and of course New Zealand.

"Then to see people who have bought from us in the past keep coming back, that's another big plus."

The draft this year features youngsters by a wide variety of proven sires such as Not A Single Doubt , All To Hard , Tavistock , Savabeel Per Incanto , Choirsir and Pins as well as Asian market favourites such as Holy Roman Emperor (IRE), Husson (Arg) and Super Easy.

Lot 106 Gelding Husson (Arg) x Lohan

Lot 320 Colt Savabeel x Villifye

Lot 19 Gelding Not a Single Doubt x Flawless Gem

Exciting young sires are also represented including Wandjina Dissident, Charm Spirit and Ghibellines. Click here to find out more about Prima Park's stellar draft.
