Making the Most of Double Danehill

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 14
The release of the 2019 Magic Millions catalogue will have yearling buyers back in the mindset of thinking pedigree, so whatever opinion you have on 'double Danehill' it's worth considering that two of the best fillies to race this spring are bred this way.

$3million earner Sunlight won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and placed in the Golden Slipper before returning at three to beat the best colts to win the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes at 1200m.

The best offspring to date for Widden Stud's outstanding young sire Zoustar, Sunlight has a 4 x 3 double cross of Danehill as you can see in her pedigree below.

Being from a daughter of Redoute's Choice, Zoustar is a sire that needs to make double Danehill work for him to succeed and so far, so good. Zoustar has had 14 winners bred this way (he has 27 winners in total) and half of them are stakes horses headed by Sunlight and Group III winner Charge.

Zoustar has 51 entries for Magic Millions, click here to see them.

Sebring filly Amphitrite was one of the finds of the spring carnival winning a succession of races culminating in the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes and Group I MRC Thousand Guineas at 1600m.

One of five Group I winners for Sebring, she is the first of his elite winners to carry the Danehill double cross as you can see in her pedigree below.

Being from a daughter of Flying Spur, Sebring is another sire that needs to have double Danehill working for him and has a growing list of stakes-winners to indicate success for the mating. Sebring has 162 winners bred this way headed by 16 stakes-winners Amphitrite joined by the likes of other current season horses such as Sesar, Sedanzer, Miss Admiration and Master Ash.

Sebring has 42 entries for Magic Millions, click here to see them.
