While Washington Heights and Tom Melbourne were getting all the attention after Saturday's Rosehill meeting sneaking back to the scene of his own major controversy in the third at Canterbury tomorrow is Up 'N' Rolling.
The Chris Waller trained galloper was the subject of a protracted inquiry following his performance when a certainty beaten, finishing second at Canterbury under Glyn Schofield back in April.
After an inquiry that took 40 days to reach its conclusion, Schofield was cleared of any indiscretion for a ride which, in many ways mirrored that of Tim Clark on Washington Heights last Saturday.
Both jockeys took the wrong option going right instead of left but the manner in which the track of the day played was a major factor in both defences.
The stewards report clearing Schofield read in part; "The stewards determined that G Schofield's decision, with the benefit of hindsight, to attempt to improve between Red Knot & Distroyia and not to shift out to trail Nahema near the 500m could be considered a lower percentage course of action. However, having regard to his explanation, namely that the horses placed close to the rail in previous races had a distinct advantage, the decision to pursue runs close to the running rail was not in the opinion of the Stewards unreasonable."
Sounds pretty much like Washington Heights on Saturday, when the inside part of the track was the 'go-to' option but eventually brought about the undoing of the heavily-backed favourite.
After a few months off, Up 'N' Rolling resumes tomorrow with Kerrin McEvoy on board but don't be put off by his two unplaced trials leading in as the gelding has been given the easiest of times and looks primed for a winning return.
