Another Beauty for Smart Missile

The Tony McEvoy-trained filly Beauty kept her record at a perfect three for three when coming from midfield to capture Saturday's Listed William Crockett Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Luke Curry put the 3yo daughter of Smart Missile into a challenging position on the home turn and she did best in the run to the line to defeat the Pierro filly Rainbow Girl by half a length with All Too Hard's Illuminaire a half-head back in third. (photos Grant Courtney)


In a blanket finish, three-quarters of a length separated the first five across the line.

A convincing winner at Gawler when making her debut in May, Beauty did it a little bit harder when a narrow winner over 1100 metres at Bendigo when making her seasonal debut on October 10.

"We trialled her at home and she trialled up beautifully so she came across and we ran her in a benchmark 70 race at Bendigo," McEvoy told AAP.

"Our next goal was a benchmark 64 over 1200 metres here at Moonee Valley next Friday night.

"But she came out of that Bendigo race so well and on the track she had gone to another level."

"She's gone and got the black type a bit earlier than I expected and I think she'll keep getting better."

McEvoy said he was considering the Jim Beam Black Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day or the Twilight Glow Stakes at Sandown on November 17 for the daughter of Smart Missile.

Bred by Glastonbury Farm, Beauty becomes the third stakes-winner for her dam Sequin after Listed VRC St Leger winner Order Of The Sun (Encosta de Lago) and Listed SAJC Cinderella Stakes winner Get To Work (Snippets). She is also the granddam of the Group 1 ARC Diamond Stakes winner and Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes runner-up Summer Passage (Snitzel).

Now 21 years old, Sequin has not had a live foal since Beauty but was covered by Headwater last season.

Beauty becomes the 8th stakes-winner for Twin Hills Stud's Smart Missile who is enjoying a phenomenal run with Group 1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven and Group II Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Smart Melody leading the charge.
