Leading young sire Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) enjoyed further success at the weekend in Europe when taking his tally of first-crop 2YO winners to 23, placing him just two behind division leader No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) by individual winners.
First to hit the board was impressive Longchamp debutant Shendam who ran out a 3 length winner over 1800m in the colours of his breeder HRH The Aga Khan. Then followed consistent performer Napanook who won a juvenile event over 1200m in England a short time later.
On Sunday in Ireland Charm Spirit's smart daughter Chicago May continued her seasonal progress when she was again successful over 1200m at Naas, in a quality renewal of the €50,000 Birdcatcher Nursery while on the same day in Madrid another daughter Belavia proved too strong for her opposition on debut with a comprehensive victory over 1500m.
Charm Spirit is currently third on the leading European First Season Sires table for prizemoney with only No Nay Never and Kingman (Invincible Spirit) ahead and Australia (Galileo) further back in fourth position.
Triple Group One winning miler Charm Spirit was a Gr.1 performed Autumn 2YO who trained on to become one of the best of his 3YO generation in Europe when successful in the Gr.1 Chantilly Prix Jean Prat and Gr.1 Prix Du Moulin de Longchamp prior to beating older horses in the Gr.1 Ascot Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes.
