Half to Slipper winner vs Sale Topping Filly at Randwick

Craig Tompson - Friday October 19

It's not one of the obvious highlight races on Caulfield Cup day but the first race at Randwick tomorrow sees an interesting pair of debutants in the half-brother to Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign and this year's most expensive filly.

Both are well in the market too, holding the second and third line of betting in current markets after respective impressive trial wins.

Time To Reign is the half-brother to She Will Reign, out of Charge Forward mare Courgette, by Kitchwin Hills ill-fated first season sire Time For War.

Time To Reign as a yearling.

Unlike She Will Reign, a $20,000 yearling for Darby Bloodstock who went on to win over $3 million, Time To Reign came at a bit more cost - $325,000 in fact to the bid of Darby Bloodstock/De Burgh Equine and Portelli Racing from the Yarraman Park Stud draft.

Trained by Gary Portelli, he's been seen once at the trials, an impressive win in heavy conditions at Warwick Farm on October 8.

Evening Slippers was the star filly of the year in the sale ring, making $1.8million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to the buyers Reg Inglis/Jon Kelly and Paul Framptonfrom the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Evening Slippers as a yearling.

She is by Snitzel out of the stakes placed Timber Country mare Flidais which makes her a full-sister to two stakes winners in the Group One winning mare Sweet Idea and dual Group Two winner Showtime.

Flidais has also left the Singapore stakes winning Rush, by Charge Forward.

Trained by The Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott duo, she has also had just the one trial, an easy win at Randwick on September 28.

With heavy conditions assured at Randwick this weekend it might be pertinent to note that not only did Time To Reign win his heat in heavy going, his sire Time For War won the Pago Pago Stakes as a two year-old in the heavy and of course his half-sister won the Golden Slipper on a Heavy 10.
