One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 9
The Oaks dream is alive for the owners of this three year-old filly by Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor, who died suddenly last week.

Etheridge - Bradley PhotographyThe John Thompson trained Etheridge won on debut at Hawkesbury in July before having a 10 week let up. Fourth on her return at Wyong last month, she quickly recaptured winning form at Goulburn on Tuesday when stepped up to 1600 metres.

She raced a bit keenly from barrier one for Jay Ford, but settled just off the pace before hitting the line strongly to win by three-quarters of a length.

A filly bred to stay all day, she is a full sister to good metro winner Roman son and is from Group II placed Zabeel mare Miss Meliss.

Bred by Bart Cummings, she runs for a partnership headed by Racenet Editor Clinton Payne, who bought the filly for just $7,700 from the bloodstockauction.com website. Click here to read the story of her purchase and success.

Oaks races next year are the goal for this filly, who certainly has the pedigree to deliver on her owners ambitions.
